How a Job Loss in IT Took Me on a Mission to Create Health and Term Insurance Awareness
By Venkatraman Chandrasekaran
I lived a simple, peaceful life with my Father and Mother in Coimbatore. Like many, I followed a steady IT career—worked for over 8 years in a reputed organization. Life was predictable. Until one day in February 2019, it wasn’t.
My company suddenly let me go.
My Father was deeply upset. He was a devoted man, serving daily in our local temple. Seeing me lose a job shook his faith. Still, I managed to find another job in a SaaS company in Coimbatore. I was doing corporate branding and slowly rebuilding myself.
But fate wasn’t done testing me.
Before I could complete my second year, I was again asked to leave.
My Father, already unwell, became more worried. Just a month after I lost that job, my beloved Appa passed away. In my arms.
It was May 14, 2021. That week I had a high fever, and Appa was deeply worried something would happen to me. Instead, I was alright and he passed away carrying the pain that his son had no job.
I kept trying to learn new things in IT. But one night, Appa came to me in a dream and asked:
“What are you going to do learning all this?”
It wasn’t a question about skills. It was about purpose. (I used to see my Father in dreams but these dreams were hard to interpret.)
First experience in life insurance industry
Somehow, during this period of loss and confusion, I got curious about the insurance industry. I joined as an advisor in a life insurance company. I started making YouTube videos about different savings products I was asked to sell.
Thankfully, no one bought anything from me for 6 months.
Why thankfully? Because deep down, I never liked the way insurance was being sold, pushed on people who didn’t need it, sold without listening. Eventually, I quit.
I was broke. But something started happening.
People from Tamil Nadu and across India began calling me, not to buy, but to ask advice. They were confused by policies offered by banks, websites, and agents. They just wanted someone who would explain things simply and truthfully.
So I did. No sales pressure. Just honest consulting.
2500+ Health & Term Insurance Consultations
Over the past 4-5 years, I’ve spoken to more than 2500 families. And I’ve seen heartbreaking mistakes.
- People investing their entire retirement savings in policies that gave nothing back.
- Men and women losing lakhs due to mis-selling.
- Elderly parents calling me, crying, saying their child had been misled.
These aren’t just numbers or stories. These are real people.
Why Health Insurance Awareness Matters?
Especially among NRIs and corporate employees, I’ve seen a dangerous assumption: “My group health insurance is enough.”
Until something major happens—a surgery, a chronic illness—and suddenly, they want a personal health policy. But it’s too late. Health issues mean rejection or expensive premiums.
So I started sharing real-life stories. No scare tactics. Just awareness.
Why Term Insurance Assessment Is Critical?
I get calls from wives, sons, and daughters. Their father passed away. Their mother is left with nothing. The claim was rejected. Why?
- Because of a missed last premium.
- Because a minor lifestyle disease wasn’t disclosed.
- Because no one told them the small things that make a big difference.
So I created my own formula to suggest the right premium term—based not just on income, but mindset.
Insurance Industry Taught Me What’s Truly Valuable
I’ve spoken to an elderly parent whose children are battling serious heart, kidney, or liver issues—and they ask me, “Can we now get health insurance for them?”
It breaks me every time.
These parents gave up everything to raise their children. Now they’re powerless.
These conversations taught me two truths:
If you're healthy, you're already rich.
Even if a good insurance policy feels expensive, it's cheaper than regret.
Take 6 months, save, and then buy. But don’t delay forever.
Your Support Helped Me Lead a Simple Life with My Amma
I’m just one person. I have no sales targets. My elder sister is a research scientist in the US, and I feel it's my duty to stay near my mother and care for her.
For the last four years, I haven’t travelled anywhere. I’ve stayed in Coimbatore. Every consultation, every person who trusted me—it’s because of you that I’ve been able to live this life with my Amma.
I’m not running a big business. I’m happy and grateful for what I have.
I created VenkatInsurance.com because I want to share this story, and this mission, across India.
Be a Part of My Mission
I invite you to join me in this journey—not to buy, but to plan.
